Re: Exhibit in Philly
Wed, May 18, 2005 - 7:37 AMSo I made it out to philly this past weekend- what a collection of his work! They did a fanatastic job of collecting pieces (in all his diverse mediums) from throughout his career and that are spread thorough out the worlds museums and collections.
It was amazing to see some pieces that i either never knew existed or have only seen in books because they are owned privately or in galleries I've never been to. I took my time walking through the exhibit and it took me over 4 hours- and I didnt get to spend as much time as I wanted to because there were too many people.
I know the two museums (FL and Spain) house great colllections, but I've never been to them. This was the first time ive seen so much Dali in one place- so much energy, so much emotion- books and prints cannot capture the color, the vibrancy, the brush strokes, the aura- when I left, all I wanted to do was to create something.
They couldnt transport some of the enormous paintings like Hallucinogenic Toreador but the collection great. the alice cooper hologram was a great peice to see- well worth the trip to philly just to see the original- unless you want to wait till it returns home to the museum in spain and see it there.
The exhibit was extended until May 30th. I seen a lot of his work and knew Dali was a master, but the exhibit left me with a sense of awe that I have not experienced with other exhibits of his work. The crowds are hard to deal with but the hassle is absolutely worth it- a GREAT tribute to Dali. -

Re: Exhibit in Philly
Thu, May 19, 2005 - 8:27 AMyears ago, maybe late 80's i went to the dali exhibit, and snuck in camera and took multiple pics, and had the photos developed, but now cannot find for the life of me the negatives. most of the shots came out very good if not excellent, and i didn't use flash, and it was weird, 'cause i was like the only one at times in the gallery walking around. guess back then the hype like there is now for his work, didn't bring out the masses. i'd love to go, but just can't seem to schedule it in with my Spring/summer calender of events....oh well.
Years later, i felt bad about doing this, i didn't really at the time realize the implications for taking pics, but as far as I can remember, didn't use flash, and the ethics behind it. but at the time i really didn't think it would,be a big deal, i maybe thought you werte aloowed until i got to the end of the exhibit, and all the reprints and stuff for sale, and it hit me. oh well....
